Selectmen's Minutes - January 29, 1991

Board discussed bids opened on January 22, 1991 for the printing of the Town Report.  Even though Fairmount Printing, Inc. was not the low bidder by a few cents, the Board awarded them the bid.  The low bidder is many miles from the Town, and would only print in increments of eight which was not part of the bid specs.  Fairmount has worked for the Town in the past doing the Town Report.

A Town employee has requested that his name not be included in the list of salaries published in the Town Report.  The Board declined to honor this request as this is public information and felt that it could not do this for one party.

Discussion on Charles George Trucking Co. suit and the fact that our defense will be picked up by the insurance company.  The Town will be reimbursed the $26,000 to $29,000 already spent.  

Voted after discussion on motion by Mrs. Fasci, 2nd Vess, Board voted 4-0 to appoint Patrick Fiella as a Part-time Police Officer.  

Board accepted petition article from the Full Time Firefighters for the March Town Meeting with approximately 150 signatures.  Turned over to the Town Clerk for certification of signatures.

Board will not increase the number of constables elected by the Town, but will try to get warrants to the two presently elected in a timely fashion.

Board voted a one day alcoholic beverage license to Hanson Kiwanis Club - Frank Gerraughty requesting - for corned beef dinner at Camp Kiwanee, March 16, 1991, 6 to 8 p.m.

After a few minor changes, Board voted to sign Highway/Water Contract - 3 years.

Held Hearing on request for one joint pole location - Eastern Edison - on Pierce Avenue, Westerly from Robinson Street.  Abutters had been notified.

Voted common victualer license to Home Entertainment Showplace, Liberty Street, for the sale of popcorn and snacks.  This is only for snack type food.

Board voted, on recommendation of Highway Surveyor and Police Chief, to install "no parking" signs on School Street on the Indian Head Street Side.  

Noted vacancy of an Alternate on the Old Colony Planning Council.

Noted South Shore Regional School District budget hearings, January 30, 1991 at 7:30 p.m.

Discussed articles being submitted for the March Special Town Meeting.

Mrs. Fasci moved to enter executive session for #3 and #4.  2nd Crowley.  Voice vote, 4-0.  Entered Exec. session with Fire Chief in attendance.  Police Chief is to enter after Fire Chief.  

No votes taken.

Meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m.
